What is permaculture?
Permacutlure. Working with nature.
Permaculture is a term created in the 1970s.
Permaculturists work with nature rather than against it to
design environments with as small an impact on the earth as possible.
It is widely based on traditional forms of agriculture
from around the world
– ancient knowledge of the Maya, the Incas, Aborigines of Australia –
brought into everyday practice.
It is a system of design which can be used in gardens,
farms, workplaces, homes, and courtyards – just about anywhere where people live.
And it does not have to be about growing plants. It can be about organising your lifestyle or your workplace.
It is based on a simple set of ethics and design principles
that can be adapted to many purposes.
